They met in 1944, in London, probably in a blacked-out bar. They then met again in Normandy, under the fire of German 88s. That's when Jeff handed the old man a flask... It was the old man's first taste of Calvados. They then finished the war in Germany together, shared Paris in the 1950's, the Eichmann trial in 1961 and an enduring friendship until Jeff died. This is what the old man wrote to say adieu.
